Kamishibai - 20/01/22

Today was the day of our crit and we spent most of the day looking at everyone's work. It was really interesting to see how everybody interpreted the brief. People created such interesting work that was all very different to each other using a variety of techniques and materials. One of my favourite pieces was by Ella and it was called Awaking in New York. I liked her work because she chose to animate a poem (by Maya Angelou) which was something nobody else in the class did. Her illustrations were beautiful and she has such a strong style and visual language.

Watching everyone's work made me realise that I could have created work that was much more figurative. I really like working this way and I want to do this in my next project because I haven't really explored it in part two yet. I found it very interesting seeing how people animated their work some choosing to use completely traditional techniques and others just using digital software. I personally like the pieces that combined both the most which is what I did in my piece. I like this because you still get to see the beautiful textures and have the life of traditional art, but also digital allows you to clean up your work more easily so that it looks polished and finished. We discussed a few peoples work after watching all of the animations and it was interesting to see which pieces people liked the most. Poppy complimented the way I used my prints in my piece and said the textures were lovely.

I unfortunately didn't finish my piece, so I only had about 50% of my story to share. I was feeling a bit upset about this before the lesson today, but after hearing that quite a few other people were unable to finish I felt better. I worked on the piece all night last night but my drawings were becoming sloppy and I didn't want to rush through it. I am planning to complete my animation this weekend.

We had a short introduction to the next project and we started to look through the British Library Sound Archive. I found 8 recordings that I really liked and wrote them all down into my book and saved the links so I could find them easily.
